About Dr. ElMallah
Dr. Mohammed ElMallah is an internationally acclaimed cataract and refractive surgeon practicing in Ocala and The Villages. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology with a primary interest in restoring vision through cataract surgery and improving quality of life through refractive lens exchange (RLE) procedures.
Dr. ElMallah has extensive experience in the surgical management of glaucoma and has been the principal investigator in several clinical trials for the FDA, helping commercialize and bring to market several of the leading minimally invasive glaucoma devices available today, including the Hydrus device, the iDose travaprost implant, and the Streamline goniotomy and canaloplasty device.
Dr. ElMallah came to the U.S. at the age of 14 to attend The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut. He went on to study computer science at Harvard University and, from there, attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. His medical training then took him to Chicago, where he completed his ophthalmology residency at UIC at the prestigious Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. ElMallah then completed a glaucoma fellowship at Duke University.
Since joining Ocala Eye in 2008, Dr. ElMallah has personally performed over 9,000 cataract surgeries and over 27,000 total procedures. He strongly believes in bringing the latest technologies and techniques to his patients and community. He shares his discoveries and research findings through regular speaking engagements at national and international conferences, through peer-reviewed medical publications, and his social media following.
Dr. ElMallah is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His professional affiliations include memberships in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Glaucoma Society. He has served previously as president of the Marion County Medical Society.
Outside work, Dr. ElMallah enjoys spending time with his wife and children. You can find them on the tennis or pickleball courts or walking around their community.
Dr. ElMallah is passionate about sharing his knowledge and ensuring that patients feel well-informed before surgery. He wrote and published his patient guide for cataract surgery to equip patients with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions before cataract surgery.
