Deena Shaath, M.D.

Deena Shaath, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Ocala Eye specializing in cataract surgery, corneal and external disease, and refractive surgery. She joined Ocala Eye after completing a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, one of the top training programs in the country. She previously completed her ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she served as Chief Resident, and her transitional year internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee.

Dr. Shaath earned her medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where she graduated first in her class with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received multiple awards, including the Department of Ophthalmology Medical Student Award and the Janet M. Glasgow-Rubin Certificate of Commendation for Academic Achievement, presented to the top female graduate in her class.

Her research and academic work have been published in respected journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina. She has also presented at national meetings, including the Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Symposium.

Dr. Shaath chose ophthalmology because it combines her love of patient care with advanced medical and surgical techniques that transform lives. She is continually inspired by the rapid advances in the field that give patients improved visual outcomes and quality of life.

She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Cornea Society, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Shaath enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, running, Orange Theory, swimming, and reading. She is fluent in both English and Arabic.
