A trifocal lens is a type of intraocular lens that is used to replace the natural lens of the eye during cataract surgery. Like a trifocal eyeglass lens, a trifocal lens contains three different prescriptions in one lens, allowing the patient to see clearly at far, intermediate, and near distances reducing, or sometimes eliminating, the need for glasses or contacts.
Trifocal lenses are a relatively new technology and are considered an advanced lens type. The PanOptix® lens is one of our lens options your Ocala Eye surgeon may choose if you choose our Premium All Focus package. As with any medical procedure, it is important to consult with your Ocala Eye surgeon to determine whether a trifocal lens is the right choice for your specific needs.
Clareon® PanOptix® and Insurance
Trifocal lenses are more expensive than a monofocal lens, and typically, an insurance company will not cover elective parts of cataract surgery, including different types of lenses. This means that, if you want a trifocal intraocular lens, you will pay out-of-pocket costs for at least part of the procedure. But if the possibility of reducing the dependence on glasses or being able to see clearly at all distances without glasses is important to you, the benefits may outweigh the cost.
Getting Started
One of our highly skilled ophthalmologists will determine if you are a candidate for Clareon® PanOptix® lens. At our North Central Florida, eye care offices, we carefully evaluate each patient, perform a thorough eye examination and review medical history to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure. The actual surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure at our Ocala surgery center and the actual operation takes less than 30 minutes. Your Ocala Eye surgeon will provide you with specific instructions to follow after you receive your new lens implants.
