About LASIK

LASIK is a procedure that can help reduce or eliminate your need for glasses and contacts and is one of the most popular forms of vision correction due to its accuracy, safety, and quick recovery. Both eyes are treated on the same day, the entire process takes just minutes, and most patients can resume normal activities as soon as the next day!

Understanding Your Vision

LASIK has been approved by the FDA to treat a wide range of prescriptions including:

Nearsightedness – cornea is too curved or eye is too long, causing light to focus in front of the retina, resulting in blurry close vision and sometimes blurry distance vision as well.

Farsightedness – cornea is too flat or eye is too short, causing light to focus beyond the retina, resulting in blurry close vision and sometimes blurry distance vision as well.

Astigmatism – cornea is shaped like a football, rather than round like a basketball, causing the light to focus in more than one point on the retina, resulting in blurry and distorted vision.

Contacts vs. LASIK

Did you know? Eye infections account for about 1 million doctor visits a year in the U.S. due to improper contact lenses care. This leads to pain, inflammation, scarring, vision disturbances, and even permanent vision loss.

Wearing contacts daily just might be a bigger risk than having your vision corrected with LASIK. In fact, some think that LASIK may be up to 5 times safer than contacts.* But only if it’s done on the right eyes by the right doctor, like our experienced team of surgeons at Ocala Eye.
